Pan Music

Ok here is a request.. I'm looking for names of pan artists to listen to. So far I am aware of Robert Greenedge, Andy Narrell, Gary Gibson, Ray Obiedo, Yohan Popwell (England), Jamma (also England), Ray Holman, Kent Arnsbarger,  Tropico Steel Drums, Carnival Steel Drum Band, Dave Lapio, also local players like Frankie Catalina, Steel Pan Dan (not-so-famous) and of course our illustrious Brad Shores. Who am I missing out on hearing? What's on your list?

Stage name?

Ok, I'll throw out another one and see what I catch.

I have a professional pan playing friend who bills himself by his name. He is marketing himself as himself. Fair enough. I, on the other hand, do not use my name but rather a persona I am cultivating.. The Calypso Kid. It was given to me by a fan, I kind of liked it and it stuck. Seems easier for people to relate to and more importantly REMEMBER the name as well as conjuring mental sounds just hearing the name.

Just curious…

Contract?

Hello. I have been playing for a couple yrs, Couple of weddings, beach bars, private parties, chamber of Commerce, volunteer gigs. I already have a full time Gig (40 hrs+) as an Elevator mechanic. This is something to do when I retire.. You know... so I can go back to work!  lol.   I don't use  a contract. Should I really get one? If so is there some examples I could use/modify for my particular use?

T&T National Anthem

Have you ever thought of arranging and including in a song book, the national anthem of Trinidad and Tobago? I imagine that every little school boy and girl on the islands learns this song on their pan. That might be fun for us too. Thanks for considering their national anthem, and maybe even our own, for pannists who might play before a local sporting event, or at a holiday gathering or local patriotic parade.

Tuning in Germany / Europe

Hello everyone,

yesterday my pan was retuned. in 1.5 hours it sounds very nice again.

Mr. Eckhard Schulz and Martin Speck explained a lot to me about the Pan that I had acquired. Very interesting.

Here is the address if someone wants a tuning in Europe or a new Pan Made in Germany.

seeking backtracks and sheet music

I play double tenor and am looking to buy quality backtracks with corresponding sheet music to add  to my repertoire. I'm a strict reader and weak with improv.  Brad Shores has been a Big help and I have all 9 of his books.  Any other suggestions for expanding my repertoire?  Thanks!

Pan Kat

Alternate Mode Pan KAT

Up for auction is a Pan KAT Midi Steel Drum that I used to play reggae tunes.  I have had the Pan KAT for 10 + years but really only used it for about a year to play solo steel drum and some Jimmy Buffett tunes for friends (I am a guitar player).  The original unit cost about $1,800 without the case and I am offering it up for $825 plus shipping.  I used an older Roland MIDI sampler (not included) for the steel drum sounds but IndigiSounds (YouTube link…
