Finally got up the nerve to take the letters off my pan. It was scary at first, but I'm forcing myself to memorize where the notes are.

Joe, I took the Pan 101 class at a local community college last year when I bought a D lead drum from eBay. It came with the letters in permanent marker. Because I perform in clubs that have lights onstage that light men turn on & off while my jazz band plays, I think I will not worry about the letters for a while. Plus, I do not want to take a chance of injuring the pan's finish or beautiful sound. Let me know how it works out for you. Richard Scott

Advanced pan technique

So there are lots of books and videos on how to play pan - all the ones I've seen are for beginners. Anybody know of Advanced technique books? I see LiamTteague does a beginner book- I would love for him to do one for more advanced players.
