Hi all,

have a question re playing with a band.  A great local band (Calypso/Cover Band) wants me to demo with them.  I will speak to the guy later today, but want to explain myself in a professional manner.  I don't have enough musical expertise to "improvise", but if i know the key of a song, then yes,  i can play chords, etc. So far, been playing by myself with my tracks.

any ideas on how i can respond to this band professionally.  of course, i would be…

Does anyone have a backing track for HERE COMES THE BRIDE key of c ?

Searched songs on I tunes and many are just not good to use with steel pan.  I bought 3 songs from I TUNES with harp  and guitar, none are in the key of C (which is pretty easy), but I will use any key at this point;   I can try to figure those notes, but I don't know what key the songs are in that I purchased so far.

any suggestions ?   This is for an outdoor beach wedding on oct 6th.  I am playing for 30…

emergency info needed pls:::: clarify breaks for my gig tomorrow

have a gig tomorrow for 2 hrs; we did agree on a price, and I did mention that I take breaks every hr, but I did not specify it to the client  and no time to do it in writing now,

What is customary ?  15 mins after playing 45 mins. then play for the next hr. straight through ?  but then that would only be one 15 min break for the whole 2 hrs. of playing ?   should it be 2 ten min breaks ?

I am very confused... if i am there from 2 to 4pm, those breaks are…

Great Idea For Another Book

hello Brad,

I was on the beach singing to Beatles' YELLOW SUBMARINE and I thought, wow, this song would be great on pan.  But what about an entire book of popular Beatles songs.  I have been playing YESTERDAY, which I found in an easy Piano book my cousin gave me, and I like to have at least 2 or 3 songs by a particular artist that I love.   and I love when the audience is familiar with the tunes!!!

So, if you think that is a good idea, let me know.

Pan Kat

Alternate Mode Pan KAT

Up for auction is a Pan KAT Midi Steel Drum that I used to play reggae tunes.  I have had the Pan KAT for 10 + years but really only used it for about a year to play solo steel drum and some Jimmy Buffett tunes for friends (I am a guitar player).  The original unit cost about $1,800 without the case and I am offering it up for $825 plus shipping.  I used an older Roland MIDI sampler (not included) for the steel drum sounds but IndigiSounds (YouTube link…

Advanced pan technique

So there are lots of books and videos on how to play pan - all the ones I've seen are for beginners. Anybody know of Advanced technique books? I see LiamTteague does a beginner book- I would love for him to do one for more advanced players.
