Painted Stand

"In this photo the stand has been spray painted black.  Because we are in the rainy season in the Caribbean Sea the paint is not drying as fast as I would prefer.  But I will exercise patience."

Profile Information

Where are you from?
Bocas del Toro, Panama
What steel pan do you play?
Low D Lead Pan

I am the steel drummer in a trio named Calypso Joe and the Bocas Beats.  Yes, we play Calypso tunes, mostly.  In the photo below, I am reading and performing music from the Complete Brad Shores Collection.  We play at small venues in the Caribbean Islands.  I live in Bocas del Toro Province on Isla Colon (Columbus Island, in English), Panama.

The dreadlocks beneath the Rasta hat are not real.  They are fiber that looks like hair and are sewn into the inside band of the hat.  I bought them as a joke but the band members like them so much they are worn at every performance and appear in our marketing photos.

Last night (September 26, 2018) when we played the song "Hot, Hot, Hot" by Arrow, a conga line formed in the venue.  That is how we measure our success.  Last night, we were successful.

Mercy Mercy Mercy

This is the lead pan sheet music for a song named "Mercy Mercy Mercy".  I try to keep them to one page but the lyrics prohibited that feat.  Enjoy!

Mercy_Mercy_Mercy.pdf

The backing track is 6.4 MB.  It is too large to be uploaded to this site.  You can purchase it for $1.99 from http://www.karaoke-version.com/.  You can even…

Auld Lang Syne

Sheet music of Auld Lang Syne for tenor lead pan in PDF format.  Click the link below to download it.  I do not speak Scottish.  The lyrics are mostly a mystery to me, too.

Pan Kat

Alternate Mode Pan KAT

Up for auction is a Pan KAT Midi Steel Drum that I used to play reggae tunes.  I have had the Pan KAT for 10 + years but really only used it for about a year to play solo steel drum and some Jimmy Buffett tunes for friends (I am a guitar player).  The original unit cost about $1,800 without the case and I am offering it up for $825 plus shipping.  I used an older Roland MIDI sampler (not included) for the steel drum sounds but IndigiSounds (YouTube link…

Advanced pan technique

So there are lots of books and videos on how to play pan - all the ones I've seen are for beginners. Anybody know of Advanced technique books? I see LiamTteague does a beginner book- I would love for him to do one for more advanced players.
