Hi fellow pan lovers. The Peace Drums Project is an initiative to bring peace through music, wherein Muslim, Christian and Jewish kids in the Middle East are learning to play steel drums TOGETHER as a band. Their first USA concerts will be in April in New York, Philadelphia, and Delaware. Come and listen, and support their efforts through donations. Learn more at http://peacedrumsproject.org . Thanks!

Hi all, I've been told by many pan players that to avoid your drum going out of tune, never allow direct sunlight on your pan, although it's okay to play in the shade in very hot weather. What about cold weather? Is there any guidance on a cold temperature threshold not to play in outdoors? Thanks!

Hi Mike,
I don't live in your area. I am actually outside of New York City. I am very interested in taking your summer Pan workshop.
Happy New Years!
Andrea
Hi Andrea,
Happy New Year to you! The workshop in late June 2014 is organized by Harvey Price, the professor for percussion in the Music Department of the University of Delaware. I attended the workshop last June as a complete novice, having never played an instrument before. I had an absolute blast, and got a serious case of the "jumbee spirit". There were three instructors and a pan tuner, and we had students of all levels from as far as Vermont and North Carolina, with the most seasoned student having about 7 years under their belt, and me at the total beginner level. The low cost of $600 for the week is SO worth it. Every student had a remarkable time. We learned some songs and jammed together a lot, of course, and refined our techniques, learned some music theory, how to improvise, witnessed some tuning, and watched some videos from Panorama in Trinidad and some other fun stuff. It was a super fun and highly relaxed learning environment. The instructors were terrific. I HIGHLY recommend any pan lover to attend. Check the links to register under EVENTS above and/or email Harvey at hprice@udel.edu . The Univ of DE is located a few minutes off of Interstate 95, about 2 hours north of DC and 1 hour south of Philly, and there's an Amtrak stop at the University.
Cheers,
Mike
Hello everyone,
yesterday my pan was retuned. in 1.5 hours it sounds very nice again.
Mr. Eckhard Schulz and Martin Speck explained a lot to me about the Pan that I had acquired. Very interesting.
Here is the address if someone wants a tuning in Europe or a new Pan Made in Germany.

I play double tenor and am looking to buy quality backtracks with corresponding sheet music to add to my repertoire. I'm a strict reader and weak with improv. Brad Shores has been a Big help and I have all 9 of his books. Any other suggestions for expanding my repertoire? Thanks!

Alternate Mode Pan KAT
Up for auction is a Pan KAT Midi Steel Drum that I used to play reggae tunes. I have had the Pan KAT for 10 + years but really only used it for about a year to play solo steel drum and some Jimmy Buffett tunes for friends (I am a guitar player). The original unit cost about $1,800 without the case and I am offering it up for $825 plus shipping. I used an older Roland MIDI sampler (not included) for the steel drum sounds but IndigiSounds (YouTube link…
